Summer Wardrobe

Hasn’t the weather been glorious over the last couple of weeks?  There’s been a mysterious shiny yellow thing in the sky that we haven’t seen for quite a few months and winter woollies finally seem to be getting phased out.

The saying goes, there’s no such thing as bad weather; there’s just the wrong clothes.  This may well be true but with our weather being notoriously changeable and many offices in older buildings not having air-conditioning, it can be somewhat of a challenge to choose what the right clothes are!

Here are just a few ideas from the team at BrightStar Recruitment on how to be prepared for whatever the weather throws at you over the next few months while still looking stylish and professional!

Choose the right fabrics

Summer clothes are more often than not, both lightweight and light in colour.  Great news but just make sure you don’t get caught out by buying anything too sheer if you work in a corporate environment.  Whatever you go for, make sure it’s breathable to handle both the heat and the demands of a typical working day.  Cotton is your friend!

Trouser suits are great for winter and are extremely smart. But they do tend to be darker in colour so why not transition into Spring and Summer by opting for smart, tailored dresses?  Sheath, shift and wrap dresses work brilliantly for a corporate environment and are really easy to accessorise with a jacket, blazer or smart cardie for meetings. A dress is also really good for those after office evenings socialising with friends.

Play with pattern & colour

Not only will it lift your mood, but lighter colours will also help to keep you cooler.  Winter working wardrobes tend to feature black quite heavily so why not have a bit more fun with brighter colours and pattern for the next few months?  For men in particular, it’s easy to get lost in a sea of grey, navy and black but you could inject some colour through ties.  For the ladies, it’s much easier to wear patterns but don’t do it all at once!  Choose a patterned dress, skirt or top and then pare everything else back.

This is the easiest way to add instant personality to your look for the office or to bring your look from day to night.  Lightweight scarves are great for a burst of colour and pattern as are statement rings and necklaces.
